Good stories begin with good authors. Meet the authors of Owl's Nest Publishers.
Emily Barnett
Emily’s writing career began at the age of eight with a story about a wizard scribbled in her Lisa Frank notebook. Since then, she has upgraded to a laptop, but the magical content is much the same.
Emily lives in the misty mountains of Colorado with her husband and two sons, where she embraces the Hobbiton ways of good books and warm drinks, while dreaming up fantastical worlds that feel a bit like home. She has contributed to several anthologies and was the Editor's Choice award winner for Havok’s Casting Call.
Emily’s debut with Owl’s Nest will be THREAD OF DREAMS, coming 2024.

Devin Brown
Devin Brown fell in love with reading during a family camping trip in middle school—the kind where you drive 50 miles to a state park in Northern Indiana and sleep in a pop-up trailer. Before leaving, he checked out four really big books from their public library in case of rain. While his two brothers were hiking and swimming, for most of the trip he ended up staying behind at their campsite so he could finish reading The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
Today Devin is an English professor at Asbury University where he shares his love of reading through his classes in adolescent literature, creative writing, and the works of C. S. Lewis and J. R. R. Tolkien. He has published over a dozen books. Devin and his wife, Sharon, live in Lexington, Kentucky. Devin's debut book with Owl's Nest Publishers is a MG contemporary called NOT EXACTLY LOVE, dedicated “To Anyone Who Ever Had a Friend They Wished Was More.” (August 2023) His follow up with Owl’s Nest is A CHRISTMAS CAROL: ANNOTATED FOR TEEN AND MIDDLE GRADE READERS. It releases in November of 2023, just in time for Christmas! |
Stephanie Ebert
After reading Little Women in middle school, Stephanie Ebert decided to be a writer like Jo March. Her first books were written while sitting in an old avocado tree, and were given out every year as Christmas presents to her three siblings. With the ability to get lost in any book, she once got in trouble in 6th grade for trying to read during an all-school assembly—although she only had one chapter left, so who can blame her?
Stephanie grew up between South Africa and the USA. She studied English Literature and Sociology in Indiana, hiked 500 miles in Spain, and spent four years living in a tiny house on wheels with her husband and two children in South Africa. She and her family are now fixing up an old farm house called Windhover in a part of South Africa that looks more like Middle Earth than The Lion King (although there are no hobbits—just monkeys that steal their avocados). Stephanie's debut with Owl's Nest, LITTLE WOMEN (in 2 Volumes): ANNOTATED FOR TEEN & MIDDLE GRADE READERS is slated for release in late 2024. Robyn Field
Robyn Field’s love of words began with her dad who, instead of planning family road trips around rest stops or gas stations, planned their travels around the locations of bookstores along the highway. She can still tell you the exits of all the best bookstores from Atlanta to the Gulf Coast.
Now, in between adventures with her husband and their two children, Robyn writes middle grade fiction, poetry, and music. She is a 2017 Writer’s Digest award winner and a 2019 Pitch Wars alumna. When she’s not writing or cutting the crusts off toddler sandwiches, Robyn enjoys playing the guitar, running, singing in her church choir, and counting down the days until her next bookstore road trip. Robyn’s debut middle grade novel with Owl’s Nest Publishers is coming summer 2024. You can find her on Instagram @robynfieldwriting. |
Emma C. Fox
Emma C. Fox spent much of her childhood climbing trees, writing adventure stories, and plotting expeditions to Middle Earth. She eventually found her own corner of the Shire on the outskirts of Birmingham, Alabama, where she tutors young writers and tends to her garden, children, and book-loving husband. Emma is a contributor to THE LOST TALES OF SIR GALAHAD (Rabbit Room Press, 2022), and author of THE ARROW AND THE CROWN (KDP, 2019), an award-winning fantasy with echoes of Beauty and the Beast.
Her debut with Owl’s Nest, a YA historical fantasy based on Siberian folklore, releases in October of 2023. Find Emma Fox on Instagram at @emmafoxbooks or visit her website at emmafoxauthor.com. |
K. B. Hoyle
K. B. Hoyle’s love of good stories began when she stepped through a wardrobe at age six, and she never looked back. She is the multiple award-winning Young Adult author of THE GATEWAY CHRONICLES and THE BREEDER CYCLE. In addition to her many novels, she is a longtime columnist at Christ and Pop Culture, a sought-after voice in the areas of storytelling and culture, and she has contributed articles and essays to a variety of publications.
K. B. stays busy at her home in Wisconsin on a winding creek with her husband, their four sons, and the foxes, deer, woodpeckers, cardinals, grass snakes, hawks, and toads that frequent their land. SON OF THE DEEP, her debut with Owl’s Nest Publishers, released on March 15, 2022. ORION AND THE STARBORN, the first in a new series for upper middle grade readers, released in November of 2022. Her teen magical realism novel, THE QUEEN OF EBENEZER, released in April of 2023. For more information on K. B. Hoyle, visit her website at kbhoyle.com. |
Tasha Kazanjian
A lover of history, theology, and old books, Tasha Kazanjian writes fantasy inspired by very real places and times. She can't resist adding a bit of magic to her worlds, but her stories primarily focus on how characters interact with those worlds, wrestling with ordinary human conflicts and emotions. Tasha lives in Michigan, surrounded by lakes and stormy weather. Her short fiction can be found in several anthologies. Tasha is represented by Anjanette Barr of Dunham Literary, Inc.

Suzanne Purvis
Suzanne Purvis is a transplanted Canadian living in the Deep South, where she traded “eh” for “y’all.” She’s an author of long, short, flash fiction, and poetry for both children and adults, often written with a touch of humor. When not writing, she can usually be found on, in, or near the water; kayaking with dolphins, snorkeling with rays, swimming in the Gulf, and even parasailing above the waves. She finds inspiration at home in the often forgotten northwest corner of Florida with her husband and two dogs, Winkin and Ozzie.
Suzanne's debut with Owl's Nest Publishers is a MG novel in verse called HERTZ GETS FUSED, coming May of 2023! Learn more about Suzanne on her website at suzannepurvis.com or send her an email at [email protected]. |
W. Scott
W. Scott is an author, poet, performer and creative spirit. He is the writer of three books of poetry in a series titled Bottled Messages. The second collection of poetry in that series, Notecards and Scrolls, reached #1 on both Amazon's “African Poetry” and “African and Middle Eastern Literature” categories. He is a consumer of coffee-related beverages and a constant dreamer who, when not writing, can be found pondering what lies behind the Pennsylvanian mountains that he calls home.
W. Scott's debut with Owl's Nest Publishers, MUSES FROM THE MOON, released in January of 2023. Find W. Scott on Instagram @w_scott_author or visit his website at wscottauthor.com |
Katie Stewart
Katie Stewart can disappear into a book like no one else, so it only makes sense that she would one day turn to writing about them. Her debut with Owl's Nest Publishers is a deep dive, as one of our Classics authors, into a new edition of ANNE OF GREEN GABLES. With a firm belief that old stories can teach modern adolescents new tricks, Katie's insights as both author and editor of Owl's Nest's Classics list is sure to delight readers and parents alike.
Katie lives somewhere in the clouds of whimsy in the hills outside Madison, WI with her husband and their three kids. ANNE OF GREEN GABLES: ANNOTATED FOR TEEN AND MIDDLE GRADE READERS released summer of 2022. Find Katie on her Instagram at @lifebetweenwords |
