  • Do you publish picture books? 
    • No, we do not publish picture books. 
  • Do you publish early reader books? 
    • No, we do not publish early reader books. Our target readership begins around age eight with our Middle Grade publications. 
  • Do you publish adult books?
    • No, we do not publish adult books. Sometimes characters in our books are adults, but all themes and content at Owl’s Nest Publishers are targeted to our audience, which is adolescent readers. 
  • Do you publish poetry?
    • Yes, we do publish poetry, as long as it is written for adolescents and fits our vision and company mission. Also, we only accept book-length poetry collection submissions (not individual poems). 
  • What genres do you publish?
    • We publish almost every genre with the exceptions of erotica and nonfiction: contemporary, historical fiction, fantasy, science fiction, romance, mystery, and any sub-genre within.
  • Do you publish nonfiction?
    • No, we do not publish nonfiction.
  • Are you a "clean" publisher?
    • At Owl's Nest, we acknowledge that the breadth of the adolescent experience will lead to story content that explores all aspects of life—some of it hard, and not all of it what some readers might consider "clean." We think it is important for adolescents to be able to read stories that give space for difficult subject matters and material. However, as publishers who also care deeply about the full personhood of our young readers, we will use our best judgment to avoid publishing content that is exploitative, graphic, obscene, or profane. 
  • Are you a Christian publishing house?
    • We are not a Christian publishing house. We are committed to maintaining a space where people of all belief systems and walks of life can find a home for their stories. We aspire to publish stories for adolescents that are true, beautiful, and good. 
  • Is Owl's Nest a vanity or a hybrid publisher?
    • We are not a vanity or a hybrid publisher. We do not—and will never—charge our authors any fees to publish.
  • Can I submit a WIP (work in progress)?
    • No. All submissions must be for books that are completed manuscripts. Please refer to our Submissions page for our guidelines. 
  • Can I submit more than one query at a time?
    • Yes, you can submit more than one query (for more than one completed manuscript) at a time. However, we encourage you to put your best foot forward when submitting and choose one to query first. If we pass on that query, you can always submit another one. If, however, we sign you for your first manuscript, you will be an Owl's Nest author and have the ability to pitch us your next work without having to query it. 
  • Do you publish previously self-published works?
    • At this time, Owl's Nest is only seeking to publish new and original manuscripts. If your book has been previously self-published—or is a book that is the continuation of a series that is already partially self-published—we cannot consider it. *We do, however, value self-published authors. Having previously self-published does not disqualify you from submitting to Owl's Nest, but you must submit a never-before-published manuscript/original story in order for it to be considered. 
  • How old do I have to be to submit to Owl's Nest Publishers?
    • 18 or older. We cannot sign anyone who isn't a legal adult. 
  • Can I resubmit a query or manuscript that Owl's Nest has already passed on if I have made revisions to it?
    • Please only resubmit a previously queried manuscript if we have requested an R&R (revise and resubmit). We will not consider queries for manuscripts we have already passed on unless we direct you to make specific revisions and resubmit to us.
  • Do you use A.I. at Owl's Nest?
    • ​​Owl's Nest believes in supporting the integrity of individual artists and writers. We do not use or permit the use of any generative A.I. in the creation or production stages of our manuscripts, book covers, or any files or graphics we are producing for sale.
